On July 2nd, satellite stations experience interference in their systems and the scientists and military believe that it is caused by meteors. Soon they realize that it is originated from the Moon by a huge spacecraft that brings other ones that are positioned over the major cities on Earth including Washington, New York, Los Angeles, Paris, London, Houston and Moscow. World governments do not know the purpose of the alien force. The scientist David Levinson discovers that the aliens are preparing the invasion of Earth, destroying the human species, and he succeeds in reporting to the President of the United States, Thomas J. Whitmore. With an inferior technology, Whitmore and General William Grey decide to give a chance to Levinson's plan of downloading a virus in the computer of the alien spacecraft as the last chance of Earthlings to survive. What if aliens that look interesting actually came to earth? Well, this happens when an army comes to earth. But things go bad when the aliens do not come in peace and destroy Washington DC, New York, and Los Angeles. Instead of making peace, the U.S. decides to annihilate them. Now an extra terrestrial nerd (goldblum), a leader of an Air Force team (smith), and the president (Pullman) have to use their wits to kill the aliens, or die. Oh man, I hate Vivca Fox, I HATE her, she is so damn annoying, I'm so glad she's not really around anymore. She's attractive in this movie tho, and not too annoying. I really don't hate Will Smith too much, but he is annoying and only more so now. Anyway, this movie is not the worst ever made, but lest face it there's so much better place $100 million dollars could have gone rather than the making of this movie. Its your typical summer action blockbuster, and if you like that sort of thing, you'll probably like this. But I didn't. Movies like this are part of the reason things like science-fiction get a bad reputation. Titanic sucks worse than this. This is a very entertaining movie for sure. I think this is a good line to begin with, because from a movie perspective I see it as a big old B film, hehe... But I enjoyed the movie from start to end, even with all the clich辿s, the americanish touch, the sometimes laughable dialog. This is a movie where you just turn your brain off, and just enjoy the fun ride it is, and root for the humans, and especially the Americans (:p) to win over evil!...

The movie I must say has a lot of memorable moments... A lot of them comes from the great special effects. I remember when watching this as a kid, I was woved by the effects, and they still look pretty good to this day! So to end it all, if you are a movie viewer who watches movies for character development, clever dialog, etc. This movie is not for you. If you just want a good time, and a good feeling after watching a movie, I recommend this very much! Thanks for reading, and have a great day! Like 2001, Star Wars and Jurassic Park, it ups the special effects stakes and gets closer to putting on screen the images you've had in your mind while reading epic sci-fi. While huge alien spacecraft hover over the earth's major cities, the world population watches in fear and wonder. It turns to just fear when the alien force begins to attack and their definses prove to be impenetrable, forcing ex-fighter pilot Thomas Whitmore (Bill Pullman), now President of the United States, along with U. S. Marine Captain Steven Hiller (Will Smith), ex-scientist turned cable technician David Levinson (Jeff Goldblum), and crop duster with a drinking problem Russell Casse (Randy Quaid) to engage in a daring counterattack in hopes of saving humanity. Independence Day is based on a screenplay written by American screenwriter Dean Devlin and German film maker Roland Emmerich (who also directed). The idea for the film is said to come from a question asking Emmerich and Devlin, who were in Europe promoting their film Stargate (1994) (1994), whether they believed in aliens. Emmerich stated that he was fascinated by the idea of an alien arrival, and further explained his response by asking the reporter to imagine what it would be like to wake up one morning and discover 15-mile-wide spaceships hovering over the world's largest cities. Emmerich then turned to Devlin and said, "I think I have an idea for our next film." A sequel, Independence Day: Resurgence (2016), is due for release in 2016, and Independence Day 3 has been announced, but no release date has been set. The story takes place over the U.S.'s independence holiday, beginning on July 2nd when the aliens first arrive, moving through July 3rd when they begin destroying the world's major cities, and ending in the counterattack on the actual Independence Day, July 4th. The implication is that the U.S.'s independence day has now become the world's Independence Day because of all the world's countries banding together to defend the existence of humanity against alien invaders. David came to realize that, just like the the aliens' use of our satellites to transmit signals to their attack force, he could plant a computer virus in the mothership that would disrupt their shields and filter down to the corresponding ships, making them all vulnerable to attack. It was considered daring because it required Steve, along with David, to fly and dock the Roswell craft in the mothership approaching Area 51, download the virus, plant a nuclear bomb with a 30-second time delay, and escape from the mothership before the explosion occurred. The beam probably hadn't reached full strength by that point. If you watch the scene of the White House's destruction, the beam does start causing damage before the big blast travels down and blows up the structure
